I recently got a Vibiemme Domobar Super, and it has a clip on filter-basket in the portafilter. I know a lot of people loves this because they don’t have to hold the filter in place while knocking out a spent puck but I don’t much care for it for several reasons…

Tamping is the process of packing the ground coffee by applying pressure to the coffee in the portafilter basket with a device not surprisingly called… a tamper Most Espresso machines comes with a plastic toy that you should immediately throw away. They usually don’t even fit right and are absolutely useless, it boggles the mind why companies does this. I recently bought an 1600$+ machine and what did it come with, that’s right–our friend Mr.Crap Tamper.
