Fixing camera shake with emboss

There’s a filter for fixing camera shake in photoshop (Smart sharpen) but there’s a better way.. emboss. Sounds crazy but it works great.

First convert your layer to a smart object. Now call up the emboss filter and look at an area where the camera shake is noticeable. Adjust the height and use the Angle slider to the same angle as the direction it looks like the camera moved while taking the shot, doesn’t have to be perfect.. yet. OK the emboss dialog.

See that little icon that looks like a couple of sliders next to your smart filter emboss layer? Doubleclick that and set the blending mode to overlay. If your image takes on a bad cast when you add the blending mode it’s because you triggered a bug in photoshop, just pop up the emboss layer again, adjust something, anything by 1 and OK out and the bug should go away.

If you set the angle and height sliders correctly you should see your camera shake go almost away, it won’t totally go away but it will be way better now.

If you didn’t nail the parameters correctly just go back to your emboss dialog and re-adjust as you are using a smart filter.
